Here’s What We Are Often Asked

How many students are in the classes?

Typically there are only 12 students on the course – all Beginners like you.  This ensures you are safe at all times and I can help everyone in the room.

Do you offer pay as you go?

Pilates4life classes are organised into 6 week blocks, payable in advance. This

  •  guarantees your place in class each week
  •  keeps Pilates4life costs down
  •  and therefore costs to members
  •  means you have a full hour of instruction – no time spent on administration

Can I do a 'Taster' class?

You are very welcome to watch a session to see what Pilates actually involves, but it’s not a good idea to join in. After all, if you were learning to swim, you wouldn’t join a race to see if you liked swimming.

Do I need to bring anything?

  1. A full body length mat – yoga type is good
  2. A  bath-towel to roll up as a cushion under your head

What do I need to wear?

Loose, comfortable clothing – track suit type is great.  No special shoes as we work barefoot or in socks.

I have done Pilates before from DVD's so is this Course for me?

An essential part of the Beginner’s Course is having an expert to check and correct your alignment and help you work safely and effectively. You will also learn which exercises are best for you and more about your strengths and weaknesses.

I have done Yoga so do I need to do this Course?

Pilates and Yoga are fundamentally different disciplines (although some exercises do look similar).   If you are new to Pilates the best advice is to learn it properly – regardless of your previous Yoga experience.

I am really fit so do I need to do the Beginner's Course?

Pilates is quite unlike any other exercise regime and it is vital that you learn the Method before attempting the movements themselves.  Once learned, you will find that your training and sports performance is improved and your chances of injury reduced.

I am 73 - will I be the oldest person in the class?

No! You are still a youngster! Some members would “admit” to being 70+ and there are one or two who have met the four score target plus 10! Amazing!

I have just had a knee replacement and have problems kneeling, can I still do it?

In Pilates, an experienced instructor can adapt ANY Movement to accommodate mobility restrictions. However, it is difficult to teach these adaptations at the same time as teaching a group of Beginners. If in doubt, please Contact Us.

I am Pregnant - Can I do the Course?

Yes, provided you are less than 8 weeks (first pregnancy), or less than 6 weeks (subsequent pregnancies) at the time the course starts. You can find out more in our Pilates4Pregnancy article with more information on Pilates for mums-to-be.
